WHC Basketball Tournament to begin Wednesday

The Western Highlands Conference Basketball Tournament begins Wednesday with Polk County’s boys and girls teams opening play at different sites.

The seventh-seeded Polk County boys (3-21, 0-12 WHC) will face second-seeded Mountain Heritage (15-7, 9-3) at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain Heritage. The Cougars swept the season series, defeating the Wolverines 67-54 and 64-49.

The winner advances to face top-seeded Hendersonville in Wednesday’s semifinals at 5:30 p.m. at Madison High School.

The seventh-seeded Polk County girls (18-5, 5-5 WHC) take on second-seeded Mitchell (6-14, 5-5) at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain Heritage. The Wolverines swept the season series against the Mountaineers, winning 49-43 and 50-31.

The winner advances to face top-seeded Hendersonville in Wednesday’s semifinals at 4 p.m. at Madison High School.

The tournament championship games are scheduled for Thursday at Madison High School, with the girls final at 7 p.m. and the boys final at 8:30 p.m.
