Rain affects high school golf, middle school football

A late afternoon storm Thursday forced the postponement of two local sporting events.

Polk County Middle and Flat Rock Middle’s football teams were already warming up on Utz Field, preparing for kickoff, when a nearby lightning strike sent the teams inside to dressing rooms. The subsequent rain led to officials rescheduling the game for Monday at 5 p.m.

Polk County’s girls golf team planned to host Western Highlands Conference schools for a match at Tryon Country Club. But that event has been rescheduled for Oct. 15, when hopefully drier skies will prevail.
