1 min read

A group of Polk County standouts are approaching milestones as the winter sports season prepares to resume from the holiday break.

Wolverine senior Bailey Staton needs just 23 points to set a new school basketball record for career scoring. Current record holder Hayley Kropp totalled 1,637 points in her career, the most for any Wolverine, male or female.

Staton currently has 1,615 points and could well set the record in Tuesday’s home game against Patton. Staton is averaging 28.8 points per game this season.

Polk County’s Aaron Jackson currently has 976 career points, leaving him just 24 short of 1,000. He will become the fifth Wolverinne boys player to score 1,000 points, joining Josh Twitty, Jamal Tanner, Carlo Wilkins and Dominique Carson in that club.

Polk County wrestlers Zalen McCraw and Amon Villareal each recorded their 150th career win in recent action. Both are nearing the school record for career victories, with the current mark of 164 held bu Austin Ollis.

McCraw has a career record of 156-39 while Villarreal sits at 150-48. Both are expected to be back in action Saturday as Polk County travels to the Enka Duals.
