Polk Middle teams set for postseason competition

Polk County Middle teams will begin competition next week in the Blue Ridge Conference conference championships for boys soccer, football and volleyball.

The Wolverine soccer squad (6-5-1) earned the fourth seed in the BRC’s East Division and will travel Monday to Macon Middle, the BRC West champions. The Panthers enter with a 9-0 record. That match is set for 4:30 p.m.

With a win, Polk Middle would advance to Wednesday’s semifinal to face either Brevard Middle or Smoky Mountain Middle.

The Polk Middle volleyball squad (11-1), meanwhile, will begin tournament play as the top seed from the East and will host Smoky Mountain Middle (3-9), the fourth seed from the West. That match is also set to begin at 4:30 p.m.

The Wolverines, with a win, would face either Brevard Middle or Waynesville Middle in the semifinal round on Wednesday. That match would be played at Polk.

The Polk Middle football team (6-0) will host Waynesville Middle (4-1) on Thursday at 5 p.m. in a semifinal matchup. The BRC expanded its football playoffs two rounds this season.

With a win, the Wolverines would host either Macon Middle or Rugby Middle in the championship game on Oct. 20.
