
Polk Middle baseball, girls soccer squads set to open playoffs
Polk County Middle’s baseball and girls soccer teams will begin play Blue Ridge Conference postseason action on Monday.
The Polk Middle girls enter the playoffs as the No. 3 seed from the BRC East Division and will travel to Macon Middle for their playoff opener. That match will begin at 3:30 p.m.
The Wolverines (6-4-2) defeated Macon Middle 3-1 earlier this season.
The winner of Monday’s games will face either Hendersonville Middle or Canton Middle in the tournament semifinals.
The Polk Middle baseball squad finished as the No. 4 seed in the BRC East and will travel to top-seeded Waynesville Middle for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
Those two teams met earlier this month, with Waynesville taking a 12-2 victory.
Polk (5-7) finished its regular season on Thursday with a 10-6 loss at Brevard Middle.
Brevard opened a 9-2 lead after three innings and held off a Wolverine rally to claim the win.
Noah Harden finished 2-for-3 for Polk Middle, with Avery Hensley 1-for-4 with two RBI and Sawyer Huff 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Bryson Hoots added a base hit and Blaine Turner had two RBI for the Wolverines.
