Polk County’s junior varsity volleyball team continued its steady improvement Tuesday, sweeping Mitchell in straight sets 25-21, 25-19 in a Western Highlands Conference matchup at Polk County.
The Wolverines (4-3) had multiple players deliver season-best performances in the convincing victory over the Mountaineers (2-5).
Sophomore Madalyn Varnadore led the offensive attack with five kills and five service aces while adding two blocks in a standout all-around effort. Emily Nance, also a sophomore, matched Varnadore’s kill total with five of her own, continuing her consistent play this season while adding two aces and six digs.

Freshman setter Camdyn Israel-Garrett orchestrated the Wolverines’ offense effectively, dishing out 13 assists while contributing four kills and seven digs. Claire Lawrence made her presence felt from the service line with four aces while matching Israel-Garrett’s four kills and adding 12 digs.
The Wolverines’ front-line defense proved formidable, with Lorali Wing (three blocks), Jackie Sankey (two blocks) and Varnadore combining for seven blocks total.
Ava Evans provided steady back-row play with eight digs while also recording a kill. The Wolverines also received contributions from Marin Kistler, Olivia Kirk and Lucy Tessnair in the victory.
The win helps Polk County build momentum as they prepare to host Mountain Heritage on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in another important conference clash.
