Polk County again claims Wells Fargo Conference Cup for WHC
For the second straight year, Polk County owns the top overall athletic program in the Western Highlands Conference.
The Wolverines captured the Wells Fargo Conference Cup, awarded to the school with the best overall athletic performance, for the 2019-2020 season. Polk also won the Conference Cup in 2018-19.
The Wolverines finished with 92.5 points, edging Owen and Mountain Heritage, which each finished with 90.5 points. Avery had 84.5 points, with Mitchell in fifth with 66 points and Madison in sixth with 60 points.
Polk Conuty earned conference championships during the season in volleyball and boys soccer as well as sharing the girls tennis title. The Wolverines also placed second in girls golf and boys and girls cross country.
Schools receive points in each sport based on conference finish on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 scale. Schools also get five participation points for fielding a team in a sport, meaning each sport and each athlete contributes to the total.
