Polk County High School athletic teams will resume practicing on Wednesday, with the first athletic event in almost two weeks set for Thursday.
The Mountain Foothills 7 Conference girls tennis tournament will be held Thursday at Brevard College, kicking off with a coaches meeting at 9 a.m. and play following thereafter. It will be the first event for any Polk County fall sports team since Sept. 25, two days before the remnants of Hurriance Helene swept a devastating path through Western North Carolina.
As for the remaining fall sports, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association will announce Wednesday how it plans to address the fall seasons across all sports given the impact of Helene on WNC teams. Once that announcement is made, Polk County officials will work to update and finalize schedules for the remainder of the fall regular seasons.
