Owen signs to play in new pro softball league

Former Polk County standout Autumn Owen has signed to play with the Kansas City Diamonds of the Professional Softball League.

The Diamonds will open their season June 12 in Atlanta against the Atlanta Smoke as part of the new seven-team league launching this season. Kansas City will play a 39-game regular season running from June through early August at Legends Field in Kansas City, Kansas, home of the Kansas City Monarchs.

In its debut season, the Professional Softball League includes the Atlanta Smoke (Atlanta, Ga.), Chattanooga Chill (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Florida Breeze (Tampa Bay, Fla.), Florida Heat (Viera, Fla.), Florida Vibe (Bradenton, Fla.), KC Diamonds (Kansas City, Mo.) and New York Rise (New York, N.Y.).

Owen played collegiately at Gardner-Webb, Marshall and North Carolina, finishing her career in 2024 at North Carolina as an All-ACC second team selection. She started in all 43 games she played in, both at catcher and as the designated player.

Owen ranked second on the team in home runs (11) and RBIs (39) and third in slugging percentage (.622). She led the Tar Heels with 28 walks and had 36 hits, 24 runs, three doubles, a triple and three hit by pitch in her graduate season.

Owen came to Chapel Hill after playing at Marshall for two seasons, leading the Sun Belt in batting average (.444), RBI (71), home runs (19), slugging percentage (.887), on-base percentage (.557), OPS (1.444) and walks (40) in 2023.

She is currently part of North Carolina’s softball program as a performance analyst.
