Former Polk County standout Sophia Overholt capped her freshman season at USC Upstate by earning Honorable Mention All-Big South honors and a spot on the Big South All-Freshman Team, the conference announced.

Overholt was also named Big South Libero of the Week on Oct. 20 and Nov. 10, and Big South Freshman of the Week on Nov. 10.

The freshman libero led the Spartans with 454 digs (4.68 per set) in 25 matches. She set USC Upstate’s record for digs in a season by a freshman with a 36-dig performance against Gardner-Webb on Nov. 7. Overholt recorded double-digit digs in 23 matches, including 20 or more digs in eight matches and 30 or more digs in three matches.

Overholt also ranked fifth on the team with 19 service aces and added 67 assists and two kills on the season. She landed a career-high three service aces on two occasions.

Overholt was a two-time state champion at Polk County, earning Most Valuable Player honors in the Wolverines’ 2023 state championship victory. She helped lead Polk County to back-to-back 1A state titles in 2023 and 2024.

USC Upstate claimed five All-Big South selections, with sophomore setter Kamyla Vega David earning Big South Setter of the Year honors and First Team All-Big South recognition. Senior middle blocker Ady O’Grady also earned First Team All-Big South honors. Freshman outside hitter Summer Kohler earned Second Team All-Big South honors, while freshman middle blocker Kensley Haneline joined Overholt as an Honorable Mention All-Big South selection.

All three Spartans freshmen – Overholt, Kohler and Haneline – were named to the Big South All-Freshman Team, the most individual All-Freshman Team players in a single season in program history.
