The One Unit Girls 5th/6th grade basketball team claimed the Gold bracket championship at the Mother’s Day Shootout, held Saturday in Greenville, winning three games in one day to capture the title.
The championship run began at 8 a.m. with a comeback victory. After trailing by eight points at halftime, One Unit rallied in the second half behind tight defense and clutch baskets to escape with a 19-17 win.
Game two brought another challenge as both teams traded baskets in an intense back-and-forth matchup. One Unit stayed composed under pressure, executing key plays late to pull away for a 33-27 victory and advance to the championship.

Despite spending the entire day competing, the team saved its best effort for the final game, which tipped off around 5 p.m. In a defensive championship showdown, One Unit held strong and secured a 16-14 victory to bring home the Mother’s Day Shootout title.
Three different players earned MVP honors throughout the day, highlighting the unselfish play and team depth that fueled the championship run for the Columbus-based team.
