PolkSports has launched a new NCHSAA RPI hub designed to make it easier to track the playoff picture throughout the season.
The new page at PolkSports.com/RPI brings together the latest Ratings Percentage Index data for Polk County’s in-season team sports, with individual pages currently available for football, boys soccer, girls tennis and volleyball.
Each sport page offers two ways to view the 3A picture:
Financial advice delivered with care, kindness and empathy. Ashworth Financial Group, Tryon.
Securities and advisory services offered through LPL Financial, a registered investment advisor. Member FINRA/SIPC.
- Projected 3A West seeds: The 24 teams that would currently make up the West bracket, ranked by RPI.
- Full 3A statewide RPI: Every 3A team listed in order, making it possible to see the overall qualifying picture and where Polk County stands.
For example, the football page currently lists the projected 24-team West field as well as the complete statewide 3A rankings. Those West seeds are a snapshot based on current RPI data and should not be viewed as projected playoff pairings. Actual playoff qualification and seeding will be determined by the NCHSAA at the end of the regular season.
The pages will be updated daily throughout the season.
The hub also includes a simple explanation of how the NCHSAA calculates RPI and how the ratings are used in the playoff process. RPI is based 40% on a team’s winning percentage, 40% on its opponents’ winning percentage and 20% on its opponents’ opponents winning percentage.
One important note: The NCHSAA calculates its RPI using results available through MaxPreps. If a completed game has not been entered there, that result will not yet be reflected in the rating.
