Monroe’s Sowell named to lead North Carolina Shrine Bowl squad

Monroe’s Johnny Sowell has been named the head coach of the North Carolina squad for the 2023 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

The annual meeting of the top high school football seniors in North and South Carolina is again scheduled for December in Spartanburg.

Pisgah head coach Brent Chappel and A.C. Reynolds assistant coach Bryan Craig were also named to the North Carolina staff, where they will be joined by Pinecrest’s Nick Eddins, North Duplin’s Hugh Martin, Page’s Doug Robertson and North Hampton’s George Privott.

Wayne Farmer of Calhoun County will lead the South Carolina squad.
