College Roundup: Huskey shining in spring for Gardner-Webb

Karsyn Huskey has made an immediate impact in her first spring competing with Gardner-Webb’s track and field program.

The former Polk County standout has competed in multiple events for Gardner-Webb this spring, recording the ninth-fastest time in school history in the 800 meters with a 2:17.98 at High Point’s Vertklasse Meeting on April 2-3.

Huskey has also excelled in the 400 meters, setting a personal record with a time of 59.63 at the Winthrop Invitational and Multis on April 17-18, finishing sixth. She placed eighth in the 800-meter run at Western Carolina’s Catamount Classic on April 24 with a time of 2:18.35.

The freshman has competed in the 400, 800 and 4×400 relay throughout the spring season.

RANDOLPH COLLEGE TENNIS: Freshman Natalie Thompson has moved into the starting lineup in singles for the WildCats and has posted a 6-4 record in singles overall.

Thompson is 5-1 as a starter at No. 5 and No. 6 singles and has played No. 2 and No. 3 doubles throughout the spring.

BELMONT ABBEY TRACK AND FIELD: Senior Tori Thompson competed in three events at the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championship on April 23-25.

Thompson finished 14th in the 800-meter run with a personal record of 2:31.31, placed sixth in the 4×400-meter relay and took eighth in the pole vault.

LENOIR-RHYNE TRACK AND FIELD: Senior Olivia Overholt posted a personal record of 4:53.69 in the 1500-meter run at the Vertklasse 2026 in early April.

Her most recent effort was a 2:17.11 in the 800-meter run at the Georgia Tech Invitational in mid-April. Lenoir-Rhyne’s next meet will be the South Atlantic Conference Championships on April 29-30 in Emory, Virginia.

GARDNER-WEBB TRACK AND FIELD: Junior Cade Bright has primarily competed in the 800 meters this spring for the Bulldogs.

Bright finished 28th at the Catamount Classic with a time of 2:13.11 and placed 10th in the 800 in 2:12.59 at the Big South vs. SoCon Challenge in March.

MARS HILL GOLF: Sophomore Avery Harden led Mars Hill at the South Atlantic Conference Championship at The Preserve At Verdae, finishing 45th.

Harden placed 12th in March at the SSU Tiger Invitational, shooting rounds of 79-79-76.

VIRGINIA-WISE GOLF: Junior Reilly Yoder tied for 28th at the South Atlantic Conference Championship at The Preserve At Verdae, shooting rounds of 78-75-78.

Yoder finished 15th at the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout in early April, shooting 77-74 at Johnson City Country Club.
