Polk County girls soccer coach Lennox Charles capped his Memorial Day weekend with a tournament championship, helping lead Charleston VOP to the title at the 10th Annual Carolinas Cup in Summerville, S.C.
Charles competed in the Over-60 division of the 8v8 tournament May 23-24.
Charleston VOP won its first two matches Saturday, defeating Greenville United 2-1 and CML Lowcountry FC 1-0. The team carried that momentum into Sunday, topping HCC Cincinnati 2-0 to build an 11-point total through three matches.

A severe thunderstorm Sunday afternoon forced organizers to cancel the remaining matches. With Charleston VOP and American FC having played the same opponents, tournament officials determined the champion by points. Charleston VOP’s 11 points topped American FC’s seven, and since Charleston VOP needed only a draw against American FC to clinch, they were declared tournament champions.
