Polk County’s indoor track squad showed Saturday how you prepare for a state championship meet.

Competing on the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem at which the state 1A/2A meet will be held Friday, the Wolverines made quite a statement, adding a state qualifier and a handful of personal records at the David Oliver Classic meet.

Savannah Robbins competed in the 1000-meter run for the first time and met the state meet standard with a time of 3:29.42. Teammates Emily Kocher (3:18.56) and Allison Swope (3:26.26) also had qualifying times, though both had already met the standard and qualified in the event.

Junior Jacob Wolfe ran a personal-best 2:38 in the 1000-meter run, becoming just the third Polk County runner to break the 2:40 mark in the event, joining John Spencer Wolfe (now at N.C. State) and teammate Sean Doyle. Wolfe’s time also meets the elite silver standard at NCRunners.com.

Doyle competed in the 1600-meter run and posted a personal-best time of 4:34.

Robbins, Swope, Kocher and Addie Lynch also posted a time of 4:28.31 in the girls 4×400-meter relay, setting a personal record for the group in that event.

Saturday’s success followed that of Friday, when the Polk boys and girls 4×800-meter relay teams each broke school records and posted the fastest times in the event for any 2A school in the state this season. The 8:18 time posted by the boys squad is just four seconds off the 2A state record and also met NCRunners.com’s elite silver standard.

Also competing Saturday:

  • Tameeia Brown, shot put, 29-0
  • Michaela Nelon, shot put, 26-8
  • Jordan Smith, long jump, 19-4 1/4
