At Polk County High, we are continuing to celebrate the holiday season with healthy competition, humor and a focus on those who are less fortunate.
We will host the sixth annual Reindeer Games again to raise both awareness and help the needy. This meet will be held at PCHS on Wednesday, beginning at 4 p.m.
Times, heights, and distances will count for state qualifying, but some added events are ones not normally contested at indoor meets. There will be a Throwers 4 x 100 Relay (limited only to “throwers”). Long jump and shot put will be contested as relays (adding together the three best efforts on each team with score based on the combined distances).
Woman-owned, family-run, and just up the road. Skytop Cabinets - custom cabinetry, Polk County.
The purpose of the Reindeer Games is to help provide food for the needy over the holiday season and to give our athletes an interesting night of competition and unique venue to achieve their athletic goals.
An “entry fee” of one can of food per athlete (or $2) will be collected. Spectators will also be “charged” one can of food for admission or $5. The food will be donated to the Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry.
At the last Reindeer Games, we collected more than 1,500 cans for distribution to those in need of assistance. This year, we will again recognize the school that provides the most cans with a special award. Polk County High School is undefeated in the “Can Drive” competition.
Field events begin at 4 p.m., followed by 4×800 meter relay at 4:15 p.m.
