Overholt finishes in top half of field at 1A state golf tournament

Polk County senior Dillon Overholt finished in a tie for 40th place Tuesday in the final round of the state 1A golf tournament at Foxfire Resort’s Red Fox Course in Foxfire Village.

Battling windy conditions on the tough course, Overholt posted a second-round score of 91 to share 40th place in the field of 83 golfers with Franklin Academy’s Jacob Girouard and Northside’s Braeden Cooper.

Overholt birdied the par-3 13th hole and had three pars during the round. He finished with a two-day total of 180.

Highland Tech’s Addison Beam held off Thomas Jefferson’s Pierce Robinson by a single shot to win the individual crown. Community School of Davidson topped Lincoln Charter by 27 shots, posting a combined 64-over 640 total, to claim the team championship.
