Crest handed Polk County its second loss of the young tennis season, downing the Wolverines 7-2 on Wednesday in non-conference girls tennis action in Boiling Springs.

Bella Marino scored the lone singles win for Polk County, a 10-0 victory at No. 6 singles, and then teamed with Trinity Branham for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.

“Once again a great learning and growing experience for our young players as they faced a potential conference champion in the Crest Chargers who have won their conference three straight years,” said Polk County head coach Richard Davis. “As a young team will do, we struggle with consistency and overall tennis savvy at this point, but will hopefully grow in these areas as the year progresses.

“All the girls showed great improvement in their play even though the score doesn’t necessarily indicate it.”

The Wolverines are back on the road on Thursday, journeying to Kings Mountain for a 4 p.m. match
