Polk County's Cameron Ward

Polk County overcome more lineup juggling and Avery on Monday, slipping past the Vikings 5-4 in a non-conference girls tennis match in Newland.

The Wolverines (2-3) welcomed back No. 1 singles player Cameron Ward from quarantine but lost another starter to the same. That didn’t prevent Polk from completing a season sweep of Avery, its former Western Highlands Conference rival.

The teams finished singles play tied at 3, then split No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. That left No. 2 doubles as the deciding match, and Polk’s Elizabeth Vitale and Katie Campuzano-Gomez delivered a 6-3 victory there to give the Wolverines the win.

Polk County returns to Mountain Foothills 7 Conference play on Tuesday, traveling to East Rutherford.
