Wolverines ousted in opening round of 1A West Regional

Polk County’s entries in the 1A West Regional individual girls tennis tournament each suffered setbacks Saturday in the opening round of play in Elkin.

Highland Tech’s Katelyn Vaher handed Polk’s Bella Sheffron a 6-4, 6-0 setback while North Carolina School of Science and Math-Morganton’s team of Ananya Sririam and Will Levine topped Polk’s Elizabeth Vitale and Cate Brown, 6-1, 6-1.

Polk County will host Elkin on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the opening round of the state 1A dual team playoffs.
