Allie Quoyle teamed with Cate Brown on Thursday for the match-clinching point in doubles play

Polk County survived a scare Thursday at R-S Central, slipping past the Hilltoppers 5-4 in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference girls tennis match.

The Wolverines (5-1, 4-1) built a 4-2 lead after singles play, then notched the match-clinching point at No. 3 doubles as Cate Brown and Allie Quoyle teamed for an 8-6 win over Alyssa Nanney and Balsam Higgins.

Brown also picked up a vital point at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win, joining Sarah Vitale, Elizabeth Vitale and Mia Wolfe as singles winners.

R-S Central dropped to 4-2 overall, 3-2 in league play with the loss.

Polk County is set to host Patton on Tuesday at 4 p.m. for another conference match.
