Owen claimed a 7-2 victory over Polk County in Western Highlands Conference tennis action Thursday afternoon, handing the Wolverines their second straight defeat in their regular-season finale.
The visiting Warhorses dominated singles play, taking all six matches to secure the team victory before doubles competition began. The win moved Owen to 5-5 on the season while Polk County dropped to 4-6 to close its regular-season campaign.
Owen’s Madalynne Phillips outlasted Polk County’s Cate Brown in a thrilling No. 1 singles match that required a third-set tiebreaker. Phillips prevailed 6-2, 2-6, (12-10) in the day’s most competitive contest.

The Warhorses continued their strong showing throughout the singles lineup, with Aubrey Parlow defeating Paige White 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2, and Amaura Feste topping Virginia Then 6-4, 6-0 in the third position. Layla Core (No. 4), Annalie Price (No. 5), and Ace Drake (No. 6) also secured straight-set victories for Owen.
The Wolverines showed resilience in doubles play, capturing two of the three matches. The top duo of Brown and White earned a 6-3 victory over Core and Feste, while Robinette and Then matched that score in their win at No. 2 doubles. Owen’s third doubles team of Rilyn Boueres and Emer Banks closed out the day with a 6-2 victory.
Polk County will learn its 3A state playoff opponent on Oct. 10, with the opening match set for Oct. 13.
