Polk County’s Alivia Livesay will begin her quest for a state tennis title on Friday, competing in the 2A state tournament in Cary.

Livesay will face West Davidson’s Olivia Varner in the opening round, which begins at 9 a.m. at the Cary Tennis Center.

Varner brings a 20-4 record into the match and is the school’s all-time leader in wins. She finished second in the 2A Midwest Regional, falling 6-0, 6-1 to Salisbury’s Kayla Honeycutt in the final.

Sixteen qualifiers are in the 2A tournament, which will contest two rounds on Friday and two rounds on Saturday. Matches will be best two-of-three sets.
