Polk County will open the state 1A playoffs on Wednesday, hosting Draughn in a first-round match.
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced pairings Friday for state playoffs across all classes. Play will begin Monday for 2A, 3A and 4A teams, with the 32-team 1A bracket waiting until Wednesday to begin.
Draughn enters with a 6-4 record, finishing second in the Western Highlands Conference. Juniors Aubrey Childers, Maria Medrano and Addelynn Honeycutt lead a group of returning Wildcats from last season, with Honeycutt posting an 8-2 mark this season at No. 5 singles.

Polk County (8-2) earned the fourth seed in the 1A West bracket.
The winner of Wednesday’s match will advance to meet either North Carolina School of Science & Math-Morganton or Elkin.
