Polk quartet qualifies for 3A Regional tennis tourney

Four Polk County girls tennis players secured spots in the 3A West Regional tournament following Tuesday’s pre-regional competition at Shelby High School.

Polk County’s top singles player, Cate Brown, received a bye into the regional round, while Paige White dominated Lincolnton’s Addie Smith 6-0, 6-0 in singles play to advance.

In doubles action, the team of Malia Robinette and Virginia Then earned a regional berth with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Shelby’s Ella Brown and Kannali Little.

The 3A West Regional is scheduled for Oct. 17 at Belmont Abbey College.

Polk County awaits word on its first-round opponent and location for the 3A dual team state playoffs. The playoff pairings will be announced Friday, with first-round matches set for Monday.
