Despite a setback on Monday, Polk County tennis is headed to the end of the regular season in a good position.
The Wolverines fell to Hendersonville 8-1 on Monday, dropping to 5-3 on the season with a Wednesday date at Owen still left on the schedule. That leaves them near the middle of the Western Highlands Conference standings at 4-3.
“Hendersonville is No. 1, they’ve beat us twice,” Polk County assistant coach Lauren Catalano said. “Owen is No. 2, they beat us once, and we play them Wednesday.”

The Wolverines’ loss to Hendersonville wasn’t without a few bright spots, particularly at No. 1 singles, where Jill Brown won 6-0, 6-1.
“Jill is just a gritty player who grinds and never quits,” Catalano said.
Paige White also gave a gritty effort at No. 2, falling 6-3, 6-3.
With Wednesday’s huge matchup with Owen looming and the playoffs down the road, Catalano said she thinks the Wolverines are playing well.
“Our singles are our strength,” Catalano said. “Our first four are playing really well. But I think we’re doing good all together, too.”
