Polk County’s girls tennis program had plenty of reasons to celebrate Tuesday.

Starting the final week of regular-season play, the Wolverines honored their two seniors, Cameron Ward and Kayleigh Wilson. Polk also celebrated a milestone conference win, topping Brevard 7-2.

The win improves Polk County’s record to 5-6 overall, 5-3 in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference matches. The Wolverines are assured of at least a .500 record in league play, a remarkable turnaround for a team that didn’t win a conference match a year ago.

Polk County travels Wednesday to R-S Central and can secure a second-place finish in the conference standings with a victory over the Hilltoppers (6-4, 5-4).

Brevard dropped to 0-10, 0-9.

Polk secured the team win during singles play, taking five of the six matches, then added two more doubles wins to complete the victory.
