Possibly in position to engineer a dramatic rally for its first win of the season, Polk County’s girls tennis team instead hustled off the court late Thursday, a nearby storm bringing an end to its match with Owen.

It’s been that kind of season for Polk.

Trailing 4-2 after singles play, Polk County had begun doubles play on a positive note, leading or narrowly trailing in the three doubles matches. Shortly before 6:30 p.m., a nearby lightning strike forced the stoppage of the match, and with a mandatory 30-minute delay pushing the resumption of play past 7 p.m., both teams agreed to delay the match.

When Polk County travels to Owen on Sept. 29, the two teams will finish Thursday’s match before playing the match scheduled for that day.
