Landrum claimed five singles wins Monday en route to a 7-2 victory over Polk County in girls tennis action in Landrum.
A deep and talented Cardinals squad proved a challenge for the Wolverines (0-2), but Polk County showed the promise that has excited first-year head coach Tracy Becker.
“It was a good match with lots of good points,” Becker said. “We were outmatched on most courts but the girls gave it their best and continued to fight until the very end.”
Allie Quoyle claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles and Sarah Vitale and Cameron Ward teamed for an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles.
The two teams are set to meet again on Monday at Polk County for the Wolverines’ home opener.
