Polk County’s Hannah Jenne notched an easy win Friday in the opening round of the state 1A singles tennis tournament in Cary.

Jenne posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Franklin Academy’s Abby Armistead in morning play at Cary Tennis Park.

Due to rain, Friday’s matches are being held on the two covered courts at Cary Tennis Park. With just two courts available for the four classes of singles and doubles championships, officials decided to move semifinal play to Saturday.

Thus Jenne will face Gray Stone Day’s Emma Bost in Saturday’s semifinal. Bost, who Jenne defeated in last week’s 1A West Regional, defeated Lejeune’s Georgia Lee 6-3, 6-1 to advance.

Play is slated to begin Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

If Jenne wins the semifinal, she’ll play in the state championship match later on Saturday.
