Polk County stopped Hendersonville’s run of 9-0 victories, but the Bearcats still left the Wolverine campus on Tuesday with an 8-1 victory in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference match.

Hendersonville, the four-time defending state 2A champions, improved to 8-0 overall, 5-0 in conference matches. Polk County suffered its first loss of the season and dropped to 4-1, 3-1.

Freshman Cate Brown provided the lone match win for the Wolverines, defeating Sophia Gallian 6-3, 0-6, 10-6 tiebreaker at No. 6 singles. The win marked Brown’s first in singles play at Polk County.

The Bearcats, who entered Tuesday having won five consecutive matches by the score of 9-0, largely dominated the remaining play.

Polk County is set to return to action on Thursday, traveling to R-S Central for a 4 p.m. match.
