East Rutherford picked up a pair of singles wins in tiebreakers Tuesday en route to defeating Polk County 8-1 in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference match in Bostic.
Polk County’s Elizabeth Vitale and Allie Quoyle each took their matches to 10-point third-set tiebreakers, splitting two pro-style sets. But East Rutherford opponents were able to win each, helping spark a sweep of singles matches that keyed the Cavaliers’ win.
“We improve every match, no doubt, but youth and inexperience is still a factor,” said Polk County head coach Richard Davis. “Hopefully, if we get our lineup back intact, we will be a bit more competitive during the second round of conference matches.”
The Wolverines are set to continue MF7 play on Thursday, hosting Brevard in a match slated to begin at 4 p.m.
