Wolverines, Knights battle to 1-1 stalemate

Ava Caristo scored in the opening minutes and Polk County Middle held a 1-0 lead for most of the game before Apple Valley scored late to earn a 1-1 draw in Thursday’s Blue Ridge Conference girls soccer match at Utz Field.

Apple Valley equalized with 3:44 remaining in regulation to force overtime. Neither team scored in the two five-minute overtime periods.

Polk County Middle (4-5-1) returns to action April 13 against Rugby Middle.

Apple Valley Middle moved to 2-2-3.
