Polk Middle's Reeve Carroll delivers a throw-in with a flip during the first half of Thursday's match

Polk County Middle grabbed a first-half lead Thursday and never let it go, handing Flat Rock a 3-1 defeat in a Blue Ridge Conference girls soccer match at Utz Field.

The Wolverines improved to 6-4-1 with the win. Polk Middle will conclude its season April 26 with a home game against Rugby.

Grace Settles gave Polk Middle its first-half advantage, racing to the back post to tap in a cross from Reeve Carroll.

The Wolverines upped the lead to 2-0 early in the second half as Molly Justice scored on an assist from Settles, then added another goal with 4:09 remaining as Carroll lofted a shot into the net following a pass from Charley Dusenbury.

Flat Rock added its goal with 2:04 remaining.

Polk Middle’s defense kept Flat Rock at bay throughout the game, with goalkeeper Cate Brown making eight saves.
