Wolverines blank Eagles to continue scoreless streak

2 min read

Polk County continued its dominant defensive form Monday, recording a fifth straight shutout in a convincing 4-0 road victory over East Henderson in non-conference girls soccer action.

Gabby Savaia led the Wolverine attack with two goals, while Charley Dusenbury and Reeve Carroll each found the back of the net once. Carroll also added two assists, with Kylie Lewis recording another to round out Polk County’s offensive production.

The Wolverines established control early, building a commanding 4-0 advantage by halftime. Polk County’s defense then locked down in the second half to preserve the clean sheet.

Carroll scored first, converting a penalty kick after Savaia drew a foul in the 11th minute. The two then swapped roles, with Carroll feeding a pass to Savaia that she converted into a goal on a low drive from some six yards out.

Dusenbury made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute, working free from a defender and launching a drive into the top left corner of the goal from near the top of the penalty area. Savaia capped the scoring just before the half, getting a pass near midfield and outracing the East Henderson defense for a one-on-one chance that she easily converted.

Goalkeeper Cate Brown continued her solid season, recording 10 saves to secure the shutout of the Eagles (2-4-2).

With spring break set for next week, the Wolverines (6-1) will return to action on April 8, hosting East Rutherford in Tennant Stadium.
