ScottLynn Whiteside didn’t wait long to set the tone.
Whiteside scored in the opening minutes, then added a penalty kick goal later in the first half as the Wolverines cruised past Flat Rock Middle 4-1 in Monday’s Blue Ridge Conference girls soccer match at Utz Field.
Whiteside’s opening strike put Polk Middle (2-3) ahead, and the Wolverines doubled their lead in the 15th minute. Ava Caristo pushed a pass forward, Rylie Klimstra knocked the ball away from the Flat Rock goalkeeper and Addy Dedmon pounced on the loose ball to make it 2-0.

Whiteside added her second goal in the 24th minute after Flat Rock was called for a handball in the box during a flurry of Polk County corner kicks. Whiteside converted the penalty kick to push the advantage to 3-0.
Klimstra capped the scoring for Polk County with a breakaway goal in the 36th minute to make it 4-0.
Flat Rock (1-3) scored a late goal for the final margin.
Polk County Middle travels to Rugby Middle on Thursday.
