Waynesville Middle spoils season opener for Polk Middle

Waynesville Middle built a 3-0 halftime lead Monday en route to a 5-1 victory over Polk County Middle in Blue Ridge Conference girls soccer action in Waynesville.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Reeve Carroll scored Polk Middle’s lone goal in the second half to cut the deficit to 3-1, but the Mountaineers responded with two goals two minutes apart later in the half to thwart any hopes of a Wolverine comeback.

Polk Middle will travel Monday to Brevard Middle for a 4:30 p.m. match.
