Team effort helps push Polk Middle past Brevard Middle in home finale

Polk County Middle’s girls soccer team earned a 1-0 win over Brevard Middle on Monday in the regular-season home finale at Utz Field.

The Wolverines (3-6) close their season on Wednesday at Rugby Middle.

Close games have been the norm this season for Polk Middle, with six of their nine matches decided by a single goal. The Wolverines are 3-3 in those matches.

Polk Middle has also been solid defensively this season, only twice allowing more than two goals in a match. The shutout was the third of the season for the Wolverines.

“The win was obviously a big one for us,” said Polk Middle head coach Travis Aldred. “It’s been a tough season but we are hanging in there and keeping games close for the most part.

“Everyone gave it their all and did their part for us to get the win.”
