Sammie Firby scored a pair of goals and Kara Overholt excelled in goal as Polk County defeated Shelby 3-1 in a non-conference girls soccer match at Shelby.

The Wolverines, who climbed to sixth in this week’s state 2A coaches poll, won their sixth straight match to improve to 7-2 this season.

Megan Clements added a goal for Polk County, which got a 10-save performance from Overholt. Miriam Santibanez, Firby and Clements had assists for Polk County.

The Wolverines are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, traveling to West Henderson for another non-conference matchup.
