Elena Carroll scored one of Polk County's five goals in Wednesday's win

Polk County overcome a slow start Tuesday, piling up five second-half goals en route to a 5-1 victory over Chase in a Mountain Foothills 7 girls soccer matchup in Forest City.

The Wolverines (9-4-3, 7-3) managed a scoreless halftime tie with the Trojans (6-9-1, 1-8-1). That ended early in the second half as a violation in the penalty area gave Polk a free kick, which Jessica Baird converted for a 1-0 lead.

Baird scored again some seven minutes later off, converting a Caroline Taylor corner kick. Chase answered in the 51st minute with a penalty kick following a Wolverine hand ball in the penalty area, but back came Polk County, with Charley Dusenbury winning a foot race to a Baird pass and pushing it past the Chase goalkeeper for a 3-1 Wolverine lead.

Elena Carroll made it 4-1 two minutes later, beating a defender to a Taylor pass and finding the bottom right corner of the net. Jasmine Baird then closed the scoring in the 65th minute.

Cate Brown had two saves for Polk County, with Maggie Johnson recording one.

Polk County will begin a season-ending three-match homestand on Thursday, hosting East Rutherford at 6 p.m.
