Polk County Middle scored three quick goals Monday and rolled to an 8-1 win over Apple Valley Middle in the Wolverines’ season opener at Utz Field.
Sophia Overholt, Elena Carroll and Caroline Taylor each scored in the first six minutes to spark the Wolverines’ early surge. Overholt scored twice more late in the half as Polk built a 5-0 lead at the break.
Overholt scored two more goals in the second half and Charlie Dusenbury also scored. Taylor had three assists and Zaelea Eller had one to help power the Wolverine victory.
“It was nice to start off with a win, but we still have a lot to learn,” said Polk Middle head coach Travis Aldred.
Polk Middle is slated to be back in action Tuesday, hosting Macon Middle at 4:30 p.m.
