Polk County Middle School picked up its second win of the season Thursday, downing Flat Rock 4-2 in a Blue Ridge Middle School Conference girls soccer match at Polk County Recreation Complex.

The Wolverines (2-4) opened a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes on goals by Baylee Love and Abby Amato. Flat Rock answered with a score, but Amato scored again, assisted by Love, to give Polk County a 3-1 halftime lead. Reese Alley scored in the second half for Polk.

Polk County head coach George Alley credited goalkeeper┬áRachael Mariposa and defenders Bella Marino and Kate Padgett for helping the Wolverines preserve the lead in the second half, as the group “withstood heavy pressure all afternoon.” Alley also pointed to the midfield play of Paige Klie and Paige Schlabach.

“Great team effort,” Alley said.

Polk Middle returns to action Tuesday, hosting Brevard Middle at 4:30 p.m.
