Polk County Middle’s girls soccer team closed its season Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Flat Rock at Utz Field.

The Wolverines ended the season with a 5-7 record and tied for fourth place in the Blue Ridge Conference’s East Division, but Apple Valley held a tiebreaker edge over Polk to claim the East’s final playoff spot.

“We ended the season on an extremely high note,” said Polk Middle head coach Travis Aldred. “(We) had a huge win against Brevard (4-3 on April 11), and then to end the season on a win at home in front of our fans was great for all and especially the eighth graders.

“The kids had a great season, and Coach (Stephanie) Luedi and I enjoyed every step of the way.”
