Polk County rallies in final half to top Madison

Polk County scored three second-half goals to rally past Madison 4-2 in Monday’s Western Highlands Conference girls soccer match in Marshall.

Madison led 2-1 at halftime before the Wolverines stormed back with three unanswered goals in the second half.

Polk County struck first when Charley Dusenbury scored in the 27th minute off a pass from Gabby Savaia, finishing low to the goalkeeper’s right from about 10 yards out.

Madison answered with a penalty kick goal in the 31st minute to tie the match, then took a 2-1 lead just before halftime on a long shot that goalkeeper Cate Brown got her hands on but couldn’t keep from going over her head.

The Wolverines equalized early in the second half when Reeve Carroll converted a penalty kick in the 42nd minute. Three minutes later, Gabby Savaia put Polk County ahead 3-2 with a goal from four yards out off a low cross from Kenley Savaia.

Carroll added an insurance goal in the 64th minute, scoring from about eight yards out on another low cross from Kenley Savaia.

Brown finished with four saves for Polk County.

Polk County (3-1-3, 2-0-1 WHC) hosts Mitchell on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in another conference match.

Madison fell to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the WHC.
