The shots kept coming. And coming. And coming.
For 40 minutes Tuesday, Polk County’s attack proved relentless, pinning Mitchell deep in its end of W.J. Miller Field and peppering goalkeeper Regan Woodlief with one attempt after another.
By the time the Wolverines were done, they had built a 4-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Mountaineers in a Western Highlands Conference girls soccer match at G.M. Tennant Stadium.

The Savaia sisters orchestrated the offensive fireworks. Kenley Savaia scored two goals and added two assists while Gabby Savaia tallied two goals and dished out two assists as the Wolverines dominated possession and created chance after chance.
Polk County broke through in the eighth minute when Kenley Savaia converted a pass from Gabby Savaia for a 1-0 lead.
The floodgates opened from there. In the 22nd minute, Kenley Savaia drove deep to the goalkeeper’s left and hit a cross to Gabby Savaia, who scored from point-blank range. Nine minutes later, Gabby Savaia played a long through ball down the right flank to Kenley Savaia, who outraced the defense, pushed close to the near post and delivered a perfect cross to a wide-open Charley Dusenbury at the back post for an easy finish from five yards.
Just a minute later, Reeve Carroll took a pass from Gabby Savaia at the top of the penalty arc and dribbled down the middle of the Mitchell defense, all the way inside the six-yard box before tapping a shot into the left corner to make it 4-0 at halftime.
The second half brought more of the same. Kenley Savaia scored in the 46th minute off a cross from Dusenbury, then Gabby Savaia intercepted a goal kick in the 54th minute, split two defenders and scored from the top of the six-yard box.
Mitchell added a late consolation goal.
