Polk County continued its winning ways Monday, notching a 4-1 victory over East Henderson in a non-conference girls soccer match in Flat Rock.
The Wolverines, coming off a 5-0 win on Friday at Franklin, improved to 11-3-1. East Henderson dropped to 1-12.
How it happened, East Henderson: Caroline Taylor sparked the Wolverines to a 3-0 halftime lead, scoring in the 12th minute after dribbling past a pair of defenders and striking a drive into the upper right corner of the net.
Taylor then added another goal seconds before halftime, taking a pass from Jamilett Ramirez some 35 yards from goal and breaking free past the East Henderson defense. Taylor dribbled deep into the penalty area near the left post before hitting a shot into the right corenr of the net for her second tally of the evening.
In between Taylor’s brace, Jessica Baird found the net in the 32nd minute, collecting the rebound from a stopped penalty kick and redirecting it into the goal.
East Henderson started strong early in the second half and cut the Polk lead to 3-1, but Baird answered in the 66th minute with a penalty kick, one of four that the Wolverines had in the match.
Maggie McCammon finished with four saves.
How it happened, Franklin: The Wolverines exploded for four goals in a span of 14 minutes to take command of Friday’s match.
Elena Carroll opened the scoring in the 19th minute, taking a pass from Taylor and slipping it past the Franklin goalkeeper as she charged toward the ball.
Baird struck a successful penalty kick in the 25th minute, and Ramirez hit another two minutes later to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead. Hayden Blackwell then capped the scoring in the 33rd minute, converting a pass from Ramirez into another goal.
Blackwell then closed the scoring in the 52nd minute, again taking a pass from Ramirez and slipping a shot inside the near post.
McCammon finished with six saves, including stopping a Franklin breakaway in the first half with the match still scoreless.
Next up: Polk County will host Chase on Thursday at 6 p.m., the final home match of the season for the Wolverines.
