
Polk blanks Avery, sets stage for WHC showdown with Hendersonville
One match to decide the Western Highlands Conference regular-season girls soccer championship. That’s what now awaits Polk County.
The Wolverines knocked off Avery, 2-0, on Friday in Newland, improving their overall record to 14-3 and WHC record to 10-1. Also at 10-1 is Hendersonville, and Polk County will host the Bearcats on Monday, the winner earning the WHC championship.
Polk County did clinch a playoff berth with Friday’s win, in which Caroline Lee and Ashley Love each scored a goal assisted by Reese Alley.
Malena Roman had 11 saves for Polk County as the Wolverines won their 11th straight match.
