East Henderson struck twice in the first 12 minutes Thursday and went on to post a 3-1 victory over Polk County in a non-conference girls soccer match in Flat Rock.

The Eagles (2-4) got goals in the seventh and 12th minutes from Kaylee Jarvis and built a 2-0 lead at the half. East added another goal early in the second half.

Polk County (2-5) scored in the 70th minute as Hayden Blackwell tallied on a header from just outside the goal, the play beginning with a Susanna Ashworth throw-in that Lauren Dotson flicked from the near post to Blackwell at the back post.

Polk continued to apply offensive pressure over the final 20 minutes, but couldn’t get another breakthrough.

The Wolverines return to the field on Tuesday, hosting Hendersonville in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference match. Junior varsity play begins at 5 p.m., with the varsity to follow. Both matches will be shown live on NFHS Network.
