Brevard Middle thwarts Polk Middle’s victory hopes

The Polk County Middle School girls soccer team battled valiantly Thursday but ultimately came up short against undefeated Brevard Middle, falling 2-0 in Blue Ridge Conference action on a windy Thursday afternoon at Utz Field.

In a contest that featured strong defensive play from both sides, the Blue Devils (4-0) broke through with a goal in the first half to take a 1-0 advantage into halftime. The score remained unchanged for much of the second half as the Wolverines pressed for an equalizer, only to see Brevard secure the victory in the closing minutes with a goal off a corner kick.

The loss drops the Wolverines to 3-2 on the season.

Polk Middle will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they host Hendersonville Middle at 4:30 p.m. in another Blue Ridge Conference matchup at Utz Field.
